Who can volunteer with the ACF at our orphanage in Kenya?
Our orphanage volunteer program in Kenya accepts English speakers from any country. You do not have to be from the United States.
English does not have to be your first language. You must be able to speak and understand English at a conversational lever. The national language of Kenya is English, schools teaching in English, but the universal language of Kenya in Swahili. Most Kenyans speak English fluently, which is why you will not have a language barrier if you speak English.
Participants must also be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by a parent or sibling (with parental approval) that is 18 years or older.
What will be available for me to do while volunteering in Kenya?
There are a variety of tasks volunteers are able to perform. Every volunteer is unique. The tasks you will be able to perform will depend on your personal knowledge, comfort level, and creativity.
General tasks that can be performed by all volunteers include:
Teaching after school sports
Preparing meals with orphanage staff
Painting projects with the children at the orphanage
Arts and craft projects with the children at the orphanage
Identifying improvements or processes at the orphanage
Assisting staff with daily tasks they perform for the children
If you have specialized knowledge or training that would help the children or community at large, the ACF will work with you to accommodate you and help you develop a plan of action that will allow you to maximize your volunteer placement.
